Henry David Thoreau wrote...
“Though I do not believe that a plant will spring up where no seed has been,
I have great faith in a seed. Convince me that you have a seed there, and I am prepared to expect wonders.”
The seed in Thoreau’s writing represents the potential to manifest inner essence. Seeds are quite powerful in that respect. A single acorn contains in its seeming smallness the essence of the oak tree – and every oak tree that will be born of it - branches, leaves, roots, bark, and rings, which form every year for up to several hundred years and carry with them an intelligence that is timeless. No one would assume so much from one little seed.
We are like seeds... we carry within ourselves amazing potential. The potential to grow and act in ways that can reveal the truth we hold inside us. The truth of compassion. The practice of yoga instructs us on how to recognize the seed of truth inside and provides us with methods to support growth. Through our practice we are taken deeper to explore the regions of our inner self that might otherwise go unnoticed. Asana, meditation and yogic breathing all work to aid in the manifestation of the seed of truth. The manifestation of our compassion and peace.
