Respite Care has become one of our most popular services at 1st Choice Home Care. Primary caregivers are often faced with juggling jobs, family responsibilities, and their own medical issues. Respite Care is a short-term solution to assist “caregivers” so they can take a break from the stress of the con­stant responsibility of caring for their loved one while remaining confident that his or her needs are being met. Respite Care originally started around 1970. The level of services provided has greatly expanded and care can range from hourly, over-night or live-in services.

Assistance from 1st Choice Home Care can avoid the stress of interrupted routines and changes in daily habits when the primary caregiver is not available. Aides perform dress­ing and grooming assistance, preparation and diet monitor­ing, escort to lab and doctor’s appointments, and assistance with medication renewals. We can take care of the grocery shopping, pick-up the mail, and even take your loved one to bingo or a movie. The home health aide can also provide a stable day-to-day routine and a familiar face when you are not around.

1st Choice Home Care also provides services for individuals in assisted living, memory units and nursing homes as well. Your loved one can receive indi­vidual attention from one of our aides when family members are not able to visit and provide that same type of attention. The daughter enlisted the help of 1st Choice Home Care and we were able to come into the home during the week and make sure that Mom’s day to day activities and routine did not change while the daughter was away. Our aide did the grocery shopping, got the mail and took out the garbage so that Mom didn’t have to go outside in the cold and risk a slip and fall in the snow. The aide also helped Mom with showering, and household chores. Our assistance allowed the family to enjoy their vaca­tion and they returned home to find Mom in good hands.
